The Day Master is the chart's anchor

In the full Sajusystem, your birth year, month, day, and hour create four pillars. The Day Pillar's upper character is called the Day Master, or il-gan. It answers the basic question: what element and polarity is the self in this chart?

A Day Master should not be treated like a sun sign. Two people can share the same Day Master but have very different readings because month season, surrounding elements, Ten Gods, and luck cycles change how that Day Master functions.

The ten Day Masters

How readers use the Day Master

  1. Identify the Day Master from the Day Pillar's Heavenly Stem.
  2. Check the birth month season to estimate whether the Day Master is naturally supported or pressured.
  3. Read the other stems and branches as relationships to the Day Master, which creates the Ten Gods framework.
  4. Layer Daewoon and yearly cycles as temporary weather around the fixed chart, not as fixed outcomes.

Example: Yang Fire in winter

A person with a Yang Fire Day Master is often described with the image of the sun: visible, expressive, and energizing. If that Day Master is born in winter and the chart has heavy Water, the reading becomes more nuanced: the person may still seek expression, but may need supportive Wood or Fire conditions to feel clear and confident.

That is why the Day Master is only the beginning. The useful reading comes from context: season, balance, relationships, and timing.
